Drinking water unit on Pampus
Drinking water on Fort Island Pampus came in plastic bottles for years. With the water treatment plant by Jotem Water Solutions, Van Remmen UV Technology and NX Filtration, that is a thing of the past. We provided Pampus with an off-grid water plant, for water simply from 't IJ.
Off grid water installation Pampus
Four years ago, we started looking for the best source of drinking water for Pampus. Groundwater was ruled out because it is salinated under the island and contains a lot of iron. Rainwater also fell through because it yields enough in summer. So water from the surrounding IJmeer remained.
A lot of preliminary work was then done on the technical details of the independent 'off grid' drinking water supply and eventually Pampus, Jotem, NX Filtration and Van Remmen decided to build a container containing the installation. Last June, it was fully sailed in and made operational.
The built-in sand filter ensures a stable supply of IJmeer water to NX Filtration's nanomembranes. This removes the pollutants and the unwanted residues, such as bacteria, are still removed with Van Remmen's downstream UV treatment. The concentrate from the membrane filtration step is discharged back into the IJmeer.
We will now further optimise the purification process. The container is full of measuring and control equipment that allows us to remotely tune the various process steps. We hope to be able to demonstrate after a few seasons that the purification process is very stable and delivers constant drinking water quality.
- Ingenious off-grid water system
- State-of-the-art direct nanofiltration
- IJmeer water as source
- Making an impact is something we do together
